Here is a little froggy applique I made for Tommy, my friend Ains's baby who is now six months old and the cutest little fella you ever did see.
I am pretty happy with the design of this, but the sewing annoyed me because its not perfect enough. Ironically I did a practice one beforehand because I wanted to get it just right and the practice one turned out with nicer satin stitch, grr typical!! But this one is definitely cuter and the fabrics are my favourites.
For some reason the satin stitch sometimes turns out beautiful and sometimes just doesn't want to cooperate. I am not sure of what the secret is. I can see on Mr Froggy that sometimes its so smooth, like around his jawline, but then other parts just go dodgy, like round his eyes, which I re-did a couple of times but it still didn't look smooth. I dunno, its a mystery.
I absolutely love doing applique, its my favourite thing at the moment. I love thinking up the designs and drawing them and refining them and then seeing the finished product, and I actually enjoy the sewing side of it too, its quite soothing doing all those little stitches so close together, especially when its going smoothly. Very satisfying. I am hooked on it for the moment.
I need a new sewing machine though. I am trying to convince Steve of this and I think he is getting there, mostly because my little old machine is very loud and my sewing corner is in the lounge room so I make sure I sew when Steve's favourite TV shows are on, ha ha ha ha ha, so evil.
In knitting news, oh knitting, yeah I remember knitting, I have started my second Easter Show project, which is a pair of socks. I have been saving the yarn for ages because it needed a special project because its just so beautiful. I am doing the same design as I have done previously, difference being that now I am more accustomed to knitting lace and the design just seems so very easy, which is proof of how far I have come because I remember the first time as being quite a challenge. So there you go, how good's that. So I need to do a little bit each day so I can finish them in time because I also have a jumper to finish and not much knitting mojo happening round here at the moment. Thank goodness for knitting group every week to keep me motivated. Well, keep me knitting anyway, dunno about the motivation.
I won't show you a picture of my easter show project because apparently we have to keep them under wraps a bit, not so much internetting of projects. But I will show you later, I promise.
