Just a quick one because I hear the siren call of my sewing machine but first I have two kids to de-sand after a trip to the beach today. And I suppose I should feed them as well. Callum ate some sand but he might need something else.
Here is a top I made. I love it, it took ages because I decided to tweak the pattern a bit, I added the lace panel and lowered the neckline. I really like this style of top and I am going to make a few more. I have bought heaps of fabric in the last week, Spotlight has nice material for around $4 a metre and one of these tops only takes a metre. The cotton is more expensive than the fabric! I use a lot of cotton because of all the unpicking I do, lol, and I also make sure I reinforce the seams a lot because I don't want things falling to bits in the washing machine. I would love an overlocker one day. One day, one day.
I learnt alot while making this top. There is a lovely lady at Spotlight, she has served me the last three times I have been there and she is a dressmaker and is very very helpful. I have learnt a lot from her. I think she is one of the only salespeople at Spotlight who has ever been helpful.
So I wore my new top today. We went to see some friends before we went to the beach. Callum wore his camouflage overalls and they were commented on. I was stoked. And I made a pav! actually I made two because the first one wasn't quite right. My Aunty Lesley, who is the pav queen, used to make another one if the first one didn't turn out perfectly, I used to think she was mad, I mean, even a bad pav is still pav, right? but now I understand. There is a certain element of pride in the pav-making endeavour, as it turns out. The second one I made looked like it had been in a car accident, I nearly didn't take it, but I covered it with cream and kiwifruit and grapes and it got rave reviews and this time I actually agreed. It was goooooood. It was really good. Perfect and soft and chewy on the inside, crusty but not too too hard on the outside. I turned the oven down slightly and cooked it for a slightly shorter time and then left it in there to cool for ages and ages and ages. Finally cracked the code!!
So it was a very domestic day, all this sewing and baking. As I said to my friend "what the hell happened to me?"
What DID happen to me? But the strangest thing of all is that I am LOVING it.
Anyway, gotta go. The kids are nice and worn out so hopefully that means they will go to sleep, and then I can sew to my hearts content. Although, I think the day has worn me out a bit *yawn*.

the top looks great, well done! Was the lady who served you named Louise? She's one of the only decent ones there. Any of the others just give me blank looks when I ask a question!
No,this one's name is Frances. She sews, she knits, she embroiders, she quilts. She's a very crafty lady! Good to know there is at least one other decent one there though!
