Little playsuits all in a row. I have enjoyed making these, they are so good for Callum to wear, they are nice and light and airy, they cover his knees when he crawls, he can move around easily in them and they are quick to put on. And of course they are cute-as. He looks adorable in them. I am ekeing out the final stages of his babyhood because its going so fast. He is standing all the time now, hasn't taken the first step yet but does 'exercises', like squats, up down up down, getting ready.
And to prove how skinny Baden is, he can fit these overalls. He looks ridiculous, like one of the kids off The Sound of Music, its very funny. But its handy to have him to try these on as I am making them, because my sewing time is Callum's nap time which means I can't try things on him as I go.
The heart on the back pocket of the latest one is my attempt at applique. I intend to get better at this, its a bit dodgy. I have to figure out how to keep track of where the material is, maybe there is a special applique foot for the machine or something, I don't know how people see through the foot to know where the material is. The hole in the foot needs to be bigger or something.
Anyway, that's all of the overalls for now except for one pair that I stuffed up. I am still a novice and the part I really need to learn is how to lay out the pieces for cutting. I stuffed this up on another little pair, I cut out the tops and then didn't have enough material for the legs. I used to start with a metre but have it down to 70cms now, so I only bought 70 cms for that one, but then didn't logically cut the pieces out. With a metre it didn't matter, but with 70 cm I ran out of fabric. I had to put a seam in the back leg, but then I also didn't wash the inner lining material, but then when I went to press it, the lining shrunk which puckered the outer bit. Anyway, the whole bloody thing is sitting there and I might chuck it, I might unpick and re-do the lining. I dunno yet. But I am looking forward to learning how to lay the pieces out for cutting. It stumps me. I look at the pattern and I can't follow what they are saying. So that's something to learn at my dressmaking class anyway.
And I am always going to pre-wash the fabric now!
